Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the study of functional relationships between one’s behavior and their environment. Behavior Analysts (BA) collect and analyze data to manage therapy. Behavior Analysis is a tool that is used across many fields such as Organizational Behavior Management (OBM), PTSD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, substance abuse, eating disorders, Down Syndrome, depression, ADHD, anxiety, etc.

ABA therapy utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and develops individualized programs that target communication skills,  behavior management skills, play skills, social skills, and daily living skills. Each program is based on a person’s behavioral assessment.  At Step Beyond Development, your child will receive services based off of a natural, fun, and contextual style of teaching.  We value family, integrity, measurable progress, and independence.

The following list illustrates the scope of possible skills that your child maybe exposed to, but are not limited to:

Teaching social and communication skills

Play skills

Teaching toileting skills

Teaching coping and self-management skills

Learning other adaptive skills such as grooming, dressing, and hygiene, etc.

During therapy sessions, therapists work directly with your child, and occasionally with caregivers. The setting and number of hours in which your child receives will be based off of initial assessment. Research shows for ABA therapy to be effective ranges from 10-30 hours per week, depending on the needs of your child.

All ABA clients are assigned to a behavior team consisting of a combination with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
