RBT Competency Assessments with a certified BCBA- INITIAL

Fee: $175 for new RBTs

The RBT competency assessment is one of the final steps in obtaining your certification. This assessment can be completed with Step Beyond Development in person (central/south Florida only), or remotely via live video observations or through recorded videos. You can complete the assessment by performing the task with a client or through role-play with a BCBA.

Remote RBT Competency Assessment

You must demonstrate hands-on competency of tasks in the RBT Task List. We know that sometimes it may take more than once to pass. If you are not successful, you may reschedule your competency assessment as soon as the next business day with no additional retake fees. Three attempts are permitted with no additional fees. If additional retakes are required, additional fees will be assessed.

Overview:

This RBT Competency Assessment-Initial meets the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s competency assessment requirement. This assessment will be administered by a BACB Certificant (BCBA, BCBA-D). The 40-hour (minimum) training requirement must be completed before this assessment can be conducted. This competency assessment involves direct observation competencies based on tasks found on the RBT Task List (2nd ed.).

To prepare for the RBT Assessment:

1. Please be sure you have all of the materials/modules completed and prepped to demonstrate the skills.

2. For Items 6 through 15 on the RBT Assessment, three of them must be demonstrated directly with a client. You can either make of video and share with

the evaluator or bring a participant to the virtual assessment session.

3. Please note that if the RBT assessment has to be re-administered due to

competencies not being demonstrated with proficiency, the assessment will need to

be repurchased, so ensure you are ready before you purchase.

The process is pretty straight forward and includes the following steps:

1. Have you completed the required 40-hour RBT Training? If so, you will need your certificate of completion to show to your evaluator for the competency assessment.

2. Have you set-up your account with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)? If not, please go to BACB.com and register for your free BACB account number. It   will look something like “BACB123456”. It is through this account you will apply to take the final RBT examination.

3. After you have completed the above steps, I will connect you to a BCBA evaluator via email. You and the evaluator will collaboratively schedule your online competency assessment.
